मातु लक्ष्मी करि कृपा, करो हृदय में वास। मनोकामना सिद्ध करि, पुरवहु मेरी आस॥
Matu Lakshmi kari kripa, karo hriday mein vas. Manokamna siddh kari, puravahu meri aas.
Mother Lakshmi, be gracious and make your home in my heart. Fulfil the wishes of my mind and complete my hopes.
यही मोर अरदास, हाथ जोड़ विनती करुं। सब विधि करौ सुवास, जय जननि जगदंबिका॥
Yahi mor ardas, hath jod vinati karun. Sab vidhi karau suvas, jai janani Jagdambika.
This is my humble plea, offered with folded hands: dwell with me in every way. Victory to you, Mother of the universe.
सिन्धु सुता मैं सुमिरौं तोही। ज्ञान बुद्धि विद्या दो मोही॥
Sindhu suta main sumirau tohi, Gyan buddhi vidya do mohi.
Daughter of the ocean, I remember you; grant me knowledge, wisdom and learning.
तुम समान नहिं कोई उपकारी। सब विधि पुरवहु आस हमारी॥
Tum saman nahin koi upkari, Sab vidhi puravahu aas hamari.
No one is as generous as you; fulfil our hopes in every way.
जय जय जगत जननि जगदम्बा। सबकी तुम ही हो अवलम्बा॥
Jai jai jagat janani Jagdamba, Sabki tum hi ho avalamba.
Victory to the Mother of the world; you alone are the support of everyone.
तुम ही हो सब घट घट वासी। विनती यही हमारी खासी॥
Tum hi ho sab ghat ghat vasi, Vinati yahi hamari khasi.
You live within every heart; this is our special prayer to you.
जगजननी जय सिन्धु कुमारी। दीनन की तुम हो हितकारी॥
Jagjanani jai Sindhu kumari, Deenan ki tum ho hitkari.
Victory to the Mother of the world, daughter of the ocean; you look after the poor and the helpless.
विनवौं नित्य तुमहिं महारानी। कृपा करौ जग जननि भवानी॥
Vinavau nitya tumahin Maharani, Kripa karau jag janani Bhavani.
Great Queen, I pray to you every day; Bhavani, Mother of the world, be kind to me.
केहि विधि स्तुति करौं तिहारी। सुधि लीजै अपराध बिसारी॥
Kehi vidhi stuti karau tihari, Sudhi lijai apradh bisari.
How can I praise you as you deserve? Forget my faults and take care of me.
कृपा दृष्टि चितववो मम ओरी। जगजननी विनती सुन मोरी॥
Kripa drishti chitavavo mam ori, Jagjanani vinati sun mori.
Turn your kind gaze towards me; Mother of the world, hear my prayer.
ज्ञान बुद्धि जय सुख की दाता। संकट हरो हमारी माता॥
Gyan buddhi jai sukh ki data, Sankat haro hamari mata.
Victory to you, giver of knowledge, wisdom and happiness; Mother, take away our troubles.
क्षीरसिन्धु जब विष्णु मथायो। चौदह रत्न सिन्धु में पायो॥
Kshirsindhu jab Vishnu mathayo, Chaudah ratna sindhu mein payo.
When Vishnu had the ocean of milk churned, fourteen treasures emerged from it.
चौदह रत्न में तुम सुखरासी। सेवा कियो प्रभु बनि दासी॥
Chaudah ratna mein tum sukhrasi, Seva kiyo prabhu bani dasi.
Among those fourteen treasures you were the source of all joy, and you devoted yourself to serving the Lord.
जब जब जन्म जहां प्रभु लीन्हा। रूप बदल तहं सेवा कीन्हा॥
Jab jab janma jahan prabhu linha, Roop badal tahan seva kinha.
Whenever and wherever the Lord took birth, you took a new form there to be by his side.
स्वयं विष्णु जब नर तनु धारा। लीन्हेउ अवधपुरी अवतारा॥
Swayam Vishnu jab nar tanu dhara, Linheu Avadhpuri avatara.
When Vishnu himself took a human body, he was born in Ayodhya as Shri Ram.
तब तुम प्रगट जनकपुर माहीं। सेवा कियो हृदय पुलकाहीं॥
Tab tum pragat Janakpur mahin, Seva kiyo hriday pulkahin.
Then you appeared in Janakpur as Sita and served him with a joyful heart.
अपनाया तोहि अन्तर्यामी। विश्व विदित त्रिभुवन की स्वामी॥
Apnaya tohi antaryami, Vishva vidit tribhuvan ki swami.
The all-knowing Lord took you as his own; the whole world knows you as the ruler of the three realms.
तुम सम प्रबल शक्ति नहिं आनी। कहं लौं महिमा कहौं बखानी॥
Tum sam prabal shakti nahin aani, Kahan lau mahima kahau bakhani.
No other power is as mighty as you; how far can I go in describing your glory?
मन क्रम वचन करै सेवकाई। मन इच्छित वांछित फल पाई॥
Man kram vachan karai sevakai, Man ichchhit vanchhit phal pai.
Whoever serves you in thought, deed and word receives the fruit they long for.
तजि छल कपट और चतुराई। पूजहिं विविध भांति मनलाई॥
Taji chhal kapat aur chaturai, Pujahin vividh bhanti manlai.
Leaving behind deceit, trickery and cunning, devotees worship you in many ways with full attention.
और हाल मैं कहौं बुझाई। जो यह पाठ करै मन लाई॥
Aur hal main kahau bujhai, Jo yah path karai man lai.
Let me explain further what comes to one who recites this with a focused mind.
ताको कोई कष्ट न होई। मन इच्छित पावै फल सोई॥
Tako koi kasht na hoi, Man ichchhit pavai phal soi.
No hardship troubles that person, and they receive the fruit their heart desires.
त्राहि त्राहि जय दुःख निवारिणि। त्रिविध ताप भव बंधन हारिणी॥
Trahi trahi jai dukh nivarini, Trividh tap bhav bandhan harini.
Save me, save me; victory to you who remove sorrow, end the three kinds of suffering and free us from worldly bonds.
जो चालीसा पढ़ै पढ़ावै। ध्यान लगाकर सुनै सुनावै॥
Jo chalisa padhai padhavai, Dhyan lagakar sunai sunavai.
Whoever reads this Chalisa or has it read, and listens to it or recites it for others with attention,
ताकौ कोई न रोग सतावै। पुत्र आदि धन सम्पत्ति पावै॥
Takau koi na rog satavai, Putra aadi dhan sampatti pavai.
is not troubled by illness, and is blessed with children, wealth and property.
पुत्रहीन अरु सम्पति हीना। अन्ध बधिर कोढ़ी अति दीना॥
Putraheen aru sampati heena, Andh badhir kodhi ati deena.
Even one who is childless or without wealth, blind, deaf, gravely ill or very poor,
विप्र बोलाय कै पाठ करावै। शंका दिल में कभी न लावै॥
Vipra bolay kai path karavai, Shanka dil mein kabhi na lavai.
should invite a learned priest to recite this, keeping no doubt in the heart.
पाठ करावै दिन चालीसा। ता पर कृपा करैं गौरीसा॥
Path karavai din chalisa, Ta par kripa karain Gaurisa.
When the recitation is done for forty days, Shiva, the Lord of Gauri, also blesses that person.
सुख सम्पत्ति बहुत सी पावै। कमी नहीं काहू की आवै॥
Sukh sampatti bahut si pavai, Kami nahin kahu ki aavai.
They gain great happiness and wealth and never fall short of anything.
बारह मास करै जो पूजा। तेहि सम धन्य और नहिं दूजा॥
Barah mas karai jo puja, Tehi sam dhanya aur nahin dooja.
One who worships you through all twelve months is more blessed than anyone else.
प्रतिदिन पाठ करै मन माहीं। उन सम कोइ जग में कहुं नाहीं॥
Pratidin path karai man mahin, Un sam koi jag mein kahun nahin.
No one in the world is equal to the person who recites this every day from the heart.
बहुविधि क्या मैं करौं बड़ाई। लेय परीक्षा ध्यान लगाई॥
Bahuvidhi kya main karau badai, Ley pariksha dhyan lagai.
Why should I praise it at length? Recite it with devotion and see the result for yourself.
करि विश्वास करै व्रत नेमा। होय सिद्ध उपजै उर प्रेमा॥
Kari vishvas karai vrat nema, Hoy siddh upajai ur prema.
Whoever keeps fasts and observances with faith succeeds, and love for you grows in their heart.
जय जय जय लक्ष्मी भवानी। सब में व्यापित हो गुण खानी॥
Jai jai jai Lakshmi Bhavani, Sab mein vyapit ho gun khani.
Victory to Lakshmi Bhavani; treasure house of virtues, you are present in everything.
तुम्हरो तेज प्रबल जग माहीं। तुम सम कोउ दयालु कहुं नाहीं॥
Tumharo tej prabal jag mahin, Tum sam kou dayalu kahun nahin.
Your radiance shines strongly across the world; no one anywhere is as compassionate as you.
मोहि अनाथ की सुधि अब लीजै। संकट काटि भक्ति मोहि दीजै॥
Mohi anath ki sudhi ab lijai, Sankat kati bhakti mohi dijai.
I have no other refuge, so please look after me now; cut away my troubles and bless me with devotion.
भूल चूक करि क्षमा हमारी। दर्शन दीजै दशा निहारी॥
Bhool chook kari kshama hamari, Darshan dijai dasha nihari.
Forgive our mistakes and oversights; look upon our condition and grant us your darshan.
बिन दर्शन व्याकुल अधिकारी। तुमहि अछत दुःख सहते भारी॥
Bin darshan vyakul adhikari, Tumahi achhat dukh sahate bhari.
Without your darshan your devotee is restless, bearing great sorrow even though you are near.
नहिं मोहिं ज्ञान बुद्धि है तन में। सब जानत हो अपने मन में॥
Nahin mohin gyan buddhi hai tan mein, Sab janat ho apne man mein.
I have no knowledge or wisdom of my own; you already know everything in your heart.
रूप चतुर्भुज करके धारण। कष्ट मोर अब करहु निवारण॥
Roop chaturbhuj karke dharan, Kasht mor ab karahu nivaran.
Take your four-armed form and remove my suffering now.
केहि प्रकार मैं करौं बड़ाई। ज्ञान बुद्धि मोहि नहिं अधिकाई॥
Kehi prakar main karau badai, Gyan buddhi mohi nahin adhikai.
How can I praise you enough, when my knowledge and wisdom are so small?
त्राहि त्राहि दुख हारिणी, हरो वेगि सब त्रास। जयति जयति जय लक्ष्मी, करो शत्रु को नाश॥
Trahi trahi dukh harini, haro vegi sab tras. Jayati jayati jai Lakshmi, karo shatru ko nash.
Save me, remover of sorrow, and quickly take away all my fears. Victory to Lakshmi; destroy all that stands against me.
रामदास धरि ध्यान नित, विनय करत कर जोर। मातु लक्ष्मी दास पर, करहु दया की कोर॥
Ramdas dhari dhyan nit, vinay karat kar jor. Matu Lakshmi das par, karahu daya ki kor.
